Your Rights Seeking Medical Help
You may seek medical care in order to test for sexually transmitted infections, pregnancy or physical injury. Medical staff have to report to the police, but the survivor does not have to report to law enforcement if they do not want to. Patients have a right to be accompanied to the medical exam by a trusted friend, family member or an advocate.
- Students can contact the UC Merced Student Health Center or other health care clinic.
- Staff and faculty can contact their health care provider.
Forensic Exam
You may obtain a free forensic exam. This process is initiated by law enforcement with confidential options. The forensic exam collects evidence for a crime investigation. Contact the CARE Office Campus Advocate or Valley Crisis Center's 24-hour hotline for free and confidential help from an advocate with this process. The advocate can provide transportation and accompany you to the exam.
